A Face Mask That Translates – C-Face

Well, this one is from Japan, no surprise isn’t! Designed by Donut Robotics, a startup, the “C-Face” helps users from catching the virus and also acts as a translator. The high-tech mask works by communicating a wearer’s speech to a smartphone via an app, and allows engaging in interactions while maintaining the prescribed social distancing norms. “Despite the coronavirus, we sometimes need to meet directly with each other,” Donut Robotics chief executive Taisuke said. Some Advantages of C-Face High Tech Masks

C-Face masks are lightweight silicone devices which can help doctors to effectively communicate with patients from a distance. The high-tech masks are designed to translate speech from Japanese into English, Korean, and other languages – a function that will prove quite beneficial, especially when travel restrictions around the world are eased out. However, it is important to note that the high-tech mask is not alone sufficient to protect wearers from the COVID virus, and in fact, has been designed to be worn over a regular face mask. The C-Face high tech mask is expected to go on sale in February and will cost roughly about 4,000 yen. The startup had successfully raised crowdfunding of nearly 100 million yen ($950,000) to develop this mask.  Loh Xian Jun from Singapore has also developed a high-tech face mask which has sensors to monitor body temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, and blood oxygen levels, and further relay data to a smartphone via a Bluetooth transmitter.  The scientist states that the mask will work effectively in protecting medics treating Covid-19 patients. He said, “Many of these frontline workers will be exposed to patients when they are taking their vital signs. This poses a health risk to the nurses, and we wanted to think about a way to reduce such risk.” Loh Xian Jun suggested that his creation will also work effectively in monitoring vital signs of migrant workers in crowded residences, which witnessed massive virus outbreaks in the city-state this year. It comprises two filters on either side and has fans to aid airflow. The filters are similar to those in LG’s home air purifiers, and can successfully block 99.95 percent of harmful particles. The South Korean electronic brand has also supplied the air purifier face masks to several medical staff, and will soon be made available to the general public.
